There are days when you are proud to be a father. First son, Caleb, had a class presentation in wind energy presented by Mortenson Construction. The FAQ sheet handed out had some great points that make you smile or cry depending on your mood that day. In this sheet FAQ # 2 it states:

Is Wind Energy Expensive? Wind energy is the cheapest form of new electricity generation available today. Wind power (key word here) is more expensive than power from old established power plants.
The two seemingly contradictory sentences caught sixth grade students off guard. Caleb asked me after returning home “how can the two sentences be opposite?"
I said there are two words we needed to find.  First word found was “energy”. We had read a scripture verse about “wind blowing where it wishes” earlier that week and of course wind blowing is cheap. The second word, power, was key because to harness that wind and turn it into power remains one of the most expensive ways to produce electricity today. In fact, the cost verses traditional ways are exponentially higher.
Caleb said he asked during class "if nuclear power plants would be more cost effective and supply greater amounts of energy while reducing green house gases?" He was “thanked for his input”……. and next question please.
Proud? You Betcha!!!
